Abi Butterworth

Hello, my name is Ms Abi and I am originally from Cumbria in England. I am a class teacher in FS1, as well as Head of Literacy and Phonics across the Foundation Stage. In 2018 I graduated from Liverpool John Moores University with a degree in Physical Education. I then further studied the following year at Derby University to complete my PGCE, which specialised in the 3-7 age pathway. I began my teaching career in education in 2019. I am now in my fifth year of teaching within the Early Years Foundation Stage, and in my third year of teaching at Gems Founders School. My passion lies in both leading and teaching Literacy and Phonics. I recognise how both Literacy and Phonics are essential for children to become successful readers and writers, equipping them with lifelong skills. I particularly enjoy reflecting upon the evident progress children make over the year from their starting points. Being Head of Literacy and Phonics allows me to follow and track progress across the whole of the Foundation Stage to ensure all children reach the desired outcome.
