
Sophie Gathercole

Sophie Gathercole is originally from Cambridge, UK, and has enjoyed 12 wonderful years in Dubai as a keen member of the GEMS Community. Sophie commenced her UAE journey as a History Teacher before embarking on educational leadership endeavours, culminating in her appointment as Head of Upper School at GEMS Wellington International School; before taking up a prestigious appointment at the GEMS Corporate Central Safeguarding Team as a Senior Manager. Sophie holds a Bachelors with Honours degree in History from the University of Leicester, Qualified Teacher Status from the Cambridge Partnership and National Professional Qualification for Senior Leadership with University College London. As a member of the GEMS Corporate Central Safeguarding Team, Sophie supports a number of GEMS schools and services in managing and leading their safeguarding policy, practice and operations – ensuring that every child’s best interests are placed at the heart of decisions made around safety and wellbeing. In her free time, Sophie enjoys spending time with family and friends, travelling and is also indulging in learning passions by studying for a Masters in Laws with the University of London. Sophie is honoured to support GEMS Founders School, as their Safeguarding LAB Governor and to contribute to the wonderful work taking place in nurturing student talents and aspirations.
