Sustainability

At GEMS Founders School – Dubai, sustainability is embedded in school life, giving students exciting opportunities to take action, develop leadership skills, and make a positive difference to their school and wider community. Through our Primary and Secondary Sustainability Councils, students lead and participate in initiatives such as cleanest classroom and plastic recycling competitions, sustainability fashion shows, research projects, EcoVision challenges, and sustainability-themed campaigns. These experiences encourage students to think creatively, work collaboratively, and turn their ideas into meaningful action.

Throughout the year, students also take part in events and initiatives that connect them with the wider sustainability community. From our Plant a Sapling Drive, featured as part of CNN’s Call to Earth, to Sustainability Week, students have had opportunities to explore environmental issues, promote sustainable choices, and inspire others. Students have also represented GFS at events including the BSME Student Climate Conference, GEMS Sustainability Conference at GEMS Learning School, KHDA’s ZeroHeroes Sustainability CoLab, and the Dubai International Food Safety Conference.
One of our key highlights has been COP30@GFS, a student-led sustainability simulation that brought together around 250 students from 15 GEMS schools across the UAE.

Through Sustainability initiatives, GFS students are developing into informed, responsible global citizens who understand that sustainability is not simply a topic to learn about, but a responsibility and an opportunity to create positive change.
