Head of Key Stage 5
After a great first year at GEMS Founders School, I am delighted to have taken the role of Head of Key Stage 5 and to have the opportunity to work closely with our dynamic and ambitious Year 12 and 13 students. I have now been working in education for the past 4 years. I am originally from Glasgow in Scotland and I completed my higher education at the University of Strathclyde. I studied to gain a BSc in Chemistry and then an MSc in Forensic Science which has developed my depth of knowledge in the subject area and allowed me to gain both research and practical skills. After gaining these qualifications, I decided to go back to University to complete my PGDE and begin my teaching career.
As a scientist we learn that failure just gives us an opportunity to reflect, adapt and try again and I firmly believe that this attitude should be encouraged in our students. It is my pleasure to work in an environment that supports this both academically and socially to ensure we best prepare our students for their futures.
I have worked closely in my previous roles to prepare students for examinations while being a teacher of chemistry, support the writing of personal statements and references for University while being an academic advisor and to provide clear expectations of what is required by different exam boards in my role as an examination marker. This experience, combined with the knowledge of the Key Stage 5 team, ensures we can provide accurate advice to support all our students.
Personally, I always try to support my well-being by doing yoga. This allows me to take some time for myself and to relax. I find it is a great way to prepare myself for the week ahead.
I look forward to working with you this year.
