Feriha Gauntlett

Head of Key Stage 1

I came to Dubai three years ago with my husband, Rob, and our two children, Alara and Joshku. My family and I have loved settling into Dubai and really enjoy all that this friendly city has to offer us.

I have 30 years of experience working in education in a variety of roles including English Language Teacher, Head of English, Primary School Teacher, Assistant Head Teacher, Head of Infants and, for the last three years, I have enjoyed my role as the Phase leader for Key Stage 1 at Gems Founders School.

My ultimate aim in Key Stage 1 is for all our children to be engaged in their learning, and therefore making their full potential progress. Teaching children to think for themselves, to reason, to think critically, to build knowledge and to work with others is a goal my team and I work hard to achieve at GFS. Children learn by doing; they learn by remembering something exciting that they have taken part in. Therefore, our job is not to impart wisdom and facts to our children; it is to give them the tools to find these facts out for themselves. We work hard to foster and develop that curiosity in children which makes them want to find out why all the houses burnt down in the Great Fire of London, or how camels are adapted to a desert habitat.

I thoroughly enjoy my role in GFS and believe that, as a school, we will go from strength to strength.
