Feriha Gauntlett

Head of Key Stage 1

I am a new member of the GEMS Founders school. I came to Dubai with my husband, Rob and our two children, Alara, 17 and Joshku, 14. My family and I have loved settling into Dubai and enjoy all that this friendly city has to offer us.

I have 25 years of experience working in education in a variety of roles including English Language Teacher, Head of English, Primary School Teacher, Assistant Head Teacher and Head of Infants. I have enjoyed classroom experience with various age groups teaching in schools in England, Istanbul and Bahrain.

I began my career in education as a middle school English Teacher in 1989.

After working in a variety of prestigious independent schools in Istanbul for 10 years, I relocated to the UK to pursue new opportunities in my teaching career. My interest, enthusiasm and passion for primary teaching steered me to start work in a primary school in Hampshire, familiarising myself with the British National Curriculum. During my time in the UK, I completed my Overseas Teacher Training with Reading University and was awarded with the UK Qualified Teacher Status.

After working in schools in the UK, I moved to Bahrain with my family and began teaching at The British School of Bahrain. I was in Bahrain for six years, where I had a variety of roles, the last of which was Head of the Infant School at The British School of Bahrain.

I am a committed to providing the best education possible for all the children. As an educator, my philosophy is first and foremost to respect and appreciate each child’s approach to learning and individuality. I thoroughly enjoy my new role in GFS and believe that, as a school, we will go from strength to strength.
